Man charged with murder in February shooting death in Richland County

A man has been arrested in connection with a February shooting death in Lower Richland.

Richland County Sheriff’s Department announced Wednesday that it had arrested William Santos, 32, and charged him with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Santos reportedly turned himself in to authorities Wednesday morning. He has been booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

According to the sheriff’s department, deputies responded at 1 a.m. Feb. 11 to Turning Leaf Drive in Hopkins in regard to a shooting. When they got there, they found a man who had been shot in the upper body. He later died at a local hospital.

Richland Coroner Naida Rutherford reported the deceased was Marcus Outen, 30, of Hopkins.

Investigators allege the suspect approached the victim outside of the home and shot at him multiple times.
