Columbia High student identified as teen killed in shooting, Richland County coroner says

A Columbia High School student was identified as the teenager killed in a Wednesday shooting, according to the Richland County Coroner’s Office.

De’Marion Corbett was the teenager who died at the Riverside Apartments, Coroner Naida Rutherford said.

The 16-year-old Columbia resident died at the scene, according to the Columbia Police Department.

Two other teenagers, ages 17 and 18, were injured in the shooting at the apartment complex and were taken to an area hospital, police said. Further information on their conditions was not available.

The apartment complex is on Lucius Road near the Earlewood area, and close to the Columbia Canal and Broad River.

At about 12:20 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting, according to Holbrook.

Officers found one of the shooting victims died on the scene and two others were taken to an area hospital with what Holbrook said were serious injuries. Further information on their conditions was not available.

There was no word on a shooter, or shooters, or a motive for the gunfire.

No arrests had been made as police and the coroner’s office continue to investigate the shooting.
