An Aiken couple is dead after apparent homicide, suicide, coroner says

An Aiken couple found dead in their home Thursday are believed to have died by an apparent homicide then suicide, the county coroner reported around 10 p.m. Thursday.

Yoni Vargas, 37, is believed to have shot and killed his wife, Rosa Salguero-Landaverde, 33, before dying by suicide from the same gun.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of shots fired around 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the 3800 block of Summerhill Avenue in Aiken.

When they entered the home, law enforcement found Vargas and Salguero-Landaverde dead in the master bedroom.

An autoposy for Salguero-Landaverde will be conducted in Newberry. Vargas is not scheduled for an autopsy.

The Aiken County coroner and sheriff’s office are still investigating the shooting.
