Richland County Coroner IDs man struck, killed on Lower Richland Boulevard

The Richland County Coroner has identified the person struck and killed walking in the 6200 block of Lower Richland Boulevard early Friday morning.

James Thomas Caldwell Jr., 64, died early Friday morning after being struck by a vehicle sometime between 1 and 4:45 a.m. Friday morning, Coroner Gary Watts said.

An autopsy indicated that Caldwell died as a result of blunt force injuries he received when he was struck, Watts said. The vehicle involved in this incident did not stop and may have damage on the right side, the highway patrol said in a flyer seeking the public’s help.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
