Richland County sheriff’s deputy hurt in overnight car crash
The Richland County Sheriff’s Department said one of its deputies was injured in a Tuesday night crash.
The collision happened at Exit 82 on Interstate 20, according to the sheriff’s department. That’s the junction with Spears Creek Church Road, near the Kershaw County line.
Details about the crash, including how it happened and the number of vehicles involved, was not available.
A collision on the westbound lanes of I-20 was reported at about 9:30 p.m., according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation. Multiple lanes were closed for an hour, and the scene was not cleared until about midnight, SCDOT said.
The deputy was taken to an area hospital, the sheriff’s department said. Further information on the deputy’s condition was not available.
No one else was hurt in the collision, according to the sheriff’s department.
There was no word if the deputy was injured in the line of duty, or was responding to a call at the time of the crash.
