Teen killed at Columbia apartment complex identified by Richland County coroner

A homicide investigation is underway after a teenager was killed Wednesday in a shooting at an apartment complex, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said.

Marquel T. Walker, a 17-year-old Columbia resident, died at about 9:30 p.m., Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford said Thursday.

Deputies responded to reports of a shooting at 780 Fashion Drive, the sheriff’s department said in a news release. That’s in Columbia, near the Village at Sandhill shopping center.

When they arrived to the parking lot deputies found Walker, who died at the scene, according to the release.

No other injuries were reported.

There was no word on a shooter, or shooters, or a motive for the gunfire.

No arrests have been reported by the sheriff’s department, which is investigating the shooting.
