Midlands school responds to threat made at football game

A Midlands school has responded to a campus threat reportedly made at a high school football game Friday night.

Lexington-Richland 5 school district sent an email to Chapin Middle School parents saying that the district had taken action after a student was reportedly heard making threats against the school at the Chapin High football game on Friday.

“(S)everal attendees overheard a student make threats against Chapin Middle School,” the school district said in the email. “School officials immediately notified law enforcement and precautions were taken to ensure this student could not pose a threat.”

The email did not elaborate on what kind of threat was made.

The district is conducting “a multilevel threat assessment” with the student who made the threat, and the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division’s Behavioral Science Unit is also assessing the threat, the school district said.

Lexington-Richland 5 encourages anyone with knowledge of a specific threat to report it to the district.
