Three teens charged after fight that ended Midlands high school football game

Three teenagers have been charged after allegedly being involved in a fight that caused a high school football game to end prematurely Friday.

A Friday night football game at Columbia’s Spring Valley High School ended in the third quarter and fans were asked to leave the stadium when a fight broke out in the concession area of the the school’s Harry Parone Stadium.

One teen was tased by police during the incident after police say they “failed to comply and continued to assault others.”

Three 17-year-olds have been charged with affray and were released to their parents following the fight, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. They have also been banned from any Richland 2 school district property.

None of the students attended Richland 2 schools, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

The fight broke out during the third quarter of a game between Ridge View and Spring Valley. Ridge View led 27-0 with 11 minutes left in the third quarter when the incident occurred.

Following the incident, Richland 2 Superintendent Baron Davis emailed parents explaining that no weapons were involved and there were no major injuries. He added officials decided not the resume the game as a precaution.
