Richland County investigators searching for person of interest in fatal shooting + video

Richland County investigators are requesting the public’s assistance in locating a person of interest in connection to a murder investigation after a man was shot and killed early Thursday morning during an armed robbery.

Sheriff Leon Lott said surveillance video footage of a gold 2005 or 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer was collected and the occupants of the vehicle are believed to have information regarding the shooting.

Lott said on Thursday morning, 26-year-old Rickey Daniel Baker was walking to the bus stop, as he does everyday to go to work, when he was approached by one or more suspects who then shot him. The suspects then fled the scene.

Sgt. Kevin Lawrence, a department spokesman, said sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 1800 block of Longcreek Drive off Broad River Road at 6:45 a.m. in reference to the shooting. When deputies arrived they found Baker who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and was unresponsive. Baker was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital.
