Richland 1 mourns the loss of district coach, employee who died over the weekend

Staff and students of Richland District 1 are mourning the death of 25-year-old district employee Cinq’ue K. Wilson after he was hit by a car Saturday night near Williams-Brice Stadium.

Superintendent Craig Witherspoon called Wilson’s death “tragic.”

“He touched many students’ lives during his tenure in the district,” Witherspoon said in a district statement. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. We will keep them in our thoughts and prayers.”

Wilson began working at the district in February 2022 as a behavior interventionist in the R.E.S.E.T. Program at Hyatt Park Elementary School. He was also the head football and track coach at Alcorn Middle School.

He was also a graduate of Benedict College. He was on the school’s track and field team and graduated in 2020 with a degree in sports management.
