Lynchburg man faces drug charge after $60,000 in marijuana plants discovered during welfare check
Sumter County sheriff’s deputies charged a Lynchburg man on drug charges Thursday after a welfare check at the suspect’s home led deputies to discover more than $60,000 in marijuana plants.
Braden Bunch, a sheriff’s office spokesman, said 67-year-old Carrigan Holloman has been charged with a single count of manufacturing marijuana at his residence, which was located in the 2900 block of Shiloh Raccoon Road.
Bunch said deputies first traveled to the residence at the request of Department of Veterans Affairs officials who asked the sheriff’s office to perform a welfare check on Holloman’s health. When deputies arrived, Holloman invited the deputies into his home, which is when they spotted several marijuana plants inside the residence.
After receiving permission to search the rest of the residence, they found 32 marijuana plants with an estimated street value of $64,000. Deputies also located five firearms in the residence, which were seized along with the plants, Bunch said.
Holloman admitted ownership of the plants and was transported to the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center where he is currently being held pending a bond hearing.
