Midlands mother hit by car, killed after putting child on school bus

The Kershaw County Coroner’s Office reported that a Camden-area woman died after being struck by a car.

Donna Gearhart was killed Tuesday morning after putting her child on a school bus.

At 6:02 a.m., Kershaw County 911 received a call about a pedestrian who had been struck by a car, according to the coroner’s office. The incident took place at the intersection of S.C. 34 and Galloway Road.

Gearhart, 41, had just placed her child on a school bus and was crossing the road when she was struck and killed.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the coroner’s office.

The incident is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol’s MAIT team, which specializes in conducting in-depth investigations of collisions, according to the highway patrol.

The Kershaw County Coroner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy Thursday.
