Search for driver wanted for hitting pedestrian and leaving the scene, SC cops say
A search is underway for the driver who left the scene of a crash where a pedestrian was hit on a Midlands road, the South Carolina Highway Patrol said.
The collision happened at about 7:35 p.m. Monday in Lee County, the Highway Patrol said Tuesday in a news release.
The victim was walking on Browntown Road, near Springvale Road, when the collision with an eastbound vehicle happened, according to the release. That’s in the Bishopville area, about 3 miles from Exit 116 on Interstate 20.
Information on the pedestrian’s condition was not available, but no death was reported.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word or on a description of the vehicle, but it might have front end damage, according to the Highway Patrol, which continues to investigate the crash.

Through Sunday, 957 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2022 — and 143 were pedestrians, according to the state Department of Public Safety. In 2021, 193 pedestrians were among the 1,194 people who died on South Carolina roads, DPS said.
