Search ends for Midlands teen who was wanted after shooting, police say

The search for a Midlands teenager wanted on an attempted murder charge ended Monday night, according to the Sumter Police Department.

Jeffrey Green turned himself in to law enforcement officers and was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, police said in a news release.

The 19-year-old Wedgefield resident was wanted after a woman was shot during an argument on Wright Street Saturday, according to the release. That’s near the downtown Sumter area, less than a mile from Prisma Health Tuomey hospital.

The 35-year-old Sumter woman was taken to a hospital in Columbia where she was stabilized and is expected to recover, police said. Further information on her condition was not available.

Prior to the shooting, she and her husband had walked to a nearby home and argued with individuals there about a speeding vehicle in the neighborhood, police said.

During the confrontation, police said Green shot the woman and fled.

When officers arrived, they saw the victim’s husband, 42-year-old Tramaine Smith, also firing shots, police said.

Smith was arrested and charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, unlawful carry of a pistol and malicious injury to property, police said.

Green, who was gone by the time police arrived, was considered armed and dangerous, according to police.

No other injuries were reported.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police at 803-436-2700, CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
