Deputies hear gunfire then find a woman who was shot, Richland County officials say
A woman who was a shooting victim was found early Sunday morning in Columbia, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies were on patrol in the 1300 block of Longcreek Drive just before 1 a.m. when they heard gunshots, the sheriff’s department said in a news release. That’s near the intersection with Broad River Road, and not far from Exit 65 on Interstate 20.
After hearing the gunfire, the deputies were then flagged down by a man who said a woman had been shot, according to the release.
They found the victim, a 24-year-old woman, who was rushed to an area hospital, the sheriff’s department said. Further information on her condition was not available, but she remains at the hospital, according to the release.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word on a shooter, or shooters, or any motive for the gunfire.
No arrests have been reported by the sheriff’s department, which is investigating the shooting. The sheriff’s department said it believes the shooting “was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.”
