A crash victim has died almost a week after two cars collided at a rural Richland County intersection, according to a statement released Friday by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The two occupants of a car were hospitalized following the collision at the intersection of Bluff Road and Martin Luther King Boulevard, near the outskirts of the Congaree National Park on Thursday, May 11.

At around 3:20 pm, a 2021 Mercedes sedan traveling east on Bluff Road and a 2006 Chrysler sedan traveling south on Martin Luther King Boulevard collided with each other, according to the highway patrol.

The two occupants of the Mercedes were taken to Prisma Health Richland, where the unnamed passenger died on May 17, according to Lance Cpl. William Bennett of the Highway Patrol.

The State has reached out to the Richland County Coroner’s Office for more information.

The driver of the Chrysler was not injured, Bennett said.
