One man is in the hospital and another is in jail following a stabbing Monday morning, according to the Columbia Police Department.

A man was walking while pushing a child in the stroller in the 600 block of Holly Street in the Shandon area when he was stabbed shortly before noon, police said. The victim was taken to the hospital, where he remained on Monday night, according to police. Further information on the victim’s condition was not available.

The child was not injured, but was taken to the hospital as a precaution, and is now with a family member, according to police.

Officers arrived on the scene within minutes after receiving an emergency call and found and arrested 47-year-old Antrel Fordham, who was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, police said.

No bond has been set and Fordham remains behind bars at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, jail records show.

Evidence was collected from the scene, and police said the stabbing was an isolated incident that they believe “stemmed from a personal conflict between (Fordham and the victim) regarding a female.” Further information about the conflict and the female was not available.

Following a bond hearing Tuesday, Fordham is scheduled to return to court on June 23, Richland County judicial records show.
