Teen injured in shooting in Rosewood area, Columbia police say

A 14-year-old was injured in a shooting in Columbia Saturday, police said.

The Columbia Police Department investigated a non-fatal shooting they said happened shortly after noon Saturday in the 3200 block of Rosewood Drive. That’s in the area between Dano’s Pizza and Rosewood Elementary School.

The shooting was determined to be an accident, according to police.

Police said one young man had a lower-body injury that was not life threatening. Further information on the teen’s condition was not available.

The teen found a lawfully owned gun inside a relative’s truck that was mistakenly left unlocked, police said.

There was no word if anyone will face criminal charges.

“In the wrong hands, firearms are dangerous. Properly secure every firearm,” police said. “If (a) gun is inside a vehicle, lock the doors. Be careful (with) “hiding” firearms and other valuables. Items can be found by others.”
