Teenager killed in Columbia shooting is identified by Richland County coroner

A teenager was killed Sunday night in a shooting in Columbia, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Jayvion Mayrant, a 19-year-old Camden resident, was identified as the homicide victim, Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford said Monday.

At about 8 p.m., deputies responded to a call about a shooting in the 100 block of Indigo Springs Drive, the sheriff’s department said in a news release. That’s near the intersection with Summit Parkway, about 1.5 miles from Ridge View High School.

At the scene, deputies found Mayrant, who had been shot in the upper body, according to the release. The teen was taken to an area hospital where he died.

No other injuries were reported.

There was no word on a shooter, or shooters, or any motive for the gunfire.

No arrests have been reported by the sheriff’s department, which is investigating the shooting.
