Columbia man killed in weekend shooting is identified by Richland County coroner

The Columbia Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that took place across the street from Benedict College’s Charles W. Johnson Stadium Saturday.

Nicholas E. Bonepart, a 32-year-old Columbia resident, was identified as the homicide victim by Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford Tuesday.

Officers were responding to a ShotSpotter alert in the vicinity of the 2100 block of Waverly Street when they discovered a deceased adult male. ShotSpotter is a network of sensors spread across the city that can detect the location of gunfire.

Bonepart was found on the same block as the Carver-Lyon Elementary School.

Police said no arrests have been made.
