Bomb threat prompts evacuation at elementary school in Columbia, police say
An elementary school in Richland County was evacuated Thursday after it was targeted in a bomb threat, according to the Columbia Police Department.
The decision to temporarily evacuate Rosewood Elementary School was made out of an abundance of caution, police said in a news release. Police said there was “NO credibility” to the bomb threat.
Both officers and police dog teams were at the scene of the Richland 1 school at 3300 Rosewood Drive to perform an extensive search, according to the release. That’s in the Rosewood area, close to both Shandon and the intersection with Devine Street.
The threat was issued in a call, police said. Information about when the call was made and who received the call was not available.
At about 12:20 p.m., police issued an “all clear” to school officials, and students were being escorted back into their classrooms, according to the release.
No threat was found, police said.
No arrests have been reported by police, who said they are working with Richland 1 officials.
Wednesday was the first day of classes for students at all Richland 1 schools.
