Clarendon County teen accused of shooting father charged with murder

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with murder and will be tried as an adult in the shooting death of his father after a domestic dispute broke out at their Turbeville home Saturday night.

Clarendon County Sheriff Randy Garrett said deputies responded to a residence in the 2400 block of Sandhill Road in reference to a shooting at 11 p.m. When deputies arrived they located 38-year-old Jeremiah Parshley dead in the front yard of the home.

Garrett said after further investigation, deputies discovered there had been a domestic dispute between Parshley and his wife. After the dispute was over, Parshley went into his room to retrieve some belongings. As Parshley was leaving the home, the son allegedly retrieved a handgun and shot his father in the back four times.

The teen admitted to deputies that he was the one who shot his father, according to Garrett.

Garrett said the son was remorseful when he admitted to deputies he had shot his father.

“There was no doubt that the father loved his son, and the son loved his father,” Garrett said.
