Woman whose body was found inside her Columbia home is identified by SC coroner
What was originally called a suspicious death is now considered a homicide, the Columbia Police Department said Tuesday.
An autopsy showed that a 66-year-old South Carolina woman died from blunt force trauma to her body, according to police.
Mary Wilson was identified as the Columbia woman who was the homicide victim, Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford said Wednesday.
At about 3 p.m. Saturday, the unresponsive woman was found in her home in the the 300 block of Byron Road, police said. That’s near Exit 9 on Interstate 77, which is the junction with Garners Ferry Road.
The 66-year-old woman died, according to police.
Police said the department’s Violent Crimes Against Persons Unit is leading the investigation, and officers collected evidence from the scene.
There was no word on a killer, or killers, or a motive for the woman’s death.
No arrests have been reported, and police said the investigation “is in the infancy stage.”
