The three teenagers who were shot and killed in Richland County on Sunday afternoon were Richland 1 students, the school district confirmed Monday morning.

Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford identified the teens as JaKobe Fanning, 16, Caleb Wise, 17 and Drevon Riley, 17. They attended Eau Claire High School.

Craig Witherspoon, Richland 1 superintendent, offered his condolences to the students’ families.

“The Richland One family is grieving the loss of three young lives to senseless gun violence,” Witherspoon said in a statement. “This is an unimaginable tragedy, and we ask everyone to keep the students’ families and the students and staff at Eau Claire High School in your thoughts and prayers.”

Richland 1’s crisis team is available on Eau Claire’s campus to provide counseling and support to students and staff who may need it, Witherspoon said. The school has extra security as a precaution.

Deputies were called to the 200 block of Saddletrail Road just after 2 p.m. Sunday and found four people with gunshot wounds, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. They were transported to the hospital, where three of them died.

A fourth person was treated and released from the hospital, the sheriff’s department said.
