A 14-year-old is charged after shooting another teenager, SC cops say
On Sunday, one teenager was taken to a detention center in Columbia and another was hospitalized following a shooting, the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
At about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to reports of a shooting at the Crescent Landing Apartments at 1008 White Horse Road, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. That’s in Greenville, near Exit 44 on Interstate 85.
At the scene, deputies found a 15-year-old male who had been shot, according to the release. The sheriff’s office called the teen’s injuries non-life threatening and said he has been released from the hospital where he was treated.
Another teenager, a 14-year-old male, was identified as the shooter, the sheriff’s office said. That teen’s name is not being publicly released because of his age.
Deputies said their investigation showed the 14-year-old walked to the apartment complex, and got into an argument with the older child, according to the release. Information about why they were arguing was not available.
As they argued, the 14-year-old shot the 15-year-old, the sheriff’s office said.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word if the teenagers previously knew each other or had any relationship before the shooting.
Information about where the 14-year-old got the gun was not available.
After he was taken into custody, the 14-year-old was taken to a South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice facility in Columbia, and has been charged with attempted murder, pointing and presenting a firearm, in addition to possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to the release.
