Two people shot outside of Popeyes in West Columbia, police say
Two people were hospitalized Tuesday night following a shooting outside of a Popeyes fast food restaurant in Lexington County, according to the West Columbia Police Department.
At about 7:55 p.m., police were called about a shooting in the 2800 block of Augusta Road, Capt. Matt Deas told The State Wednesday. That’s close to Exit 111 on Interstate 26.
When officers responded to the scene, they found two victims who were taken to an area hospital with what Deas called non-life-threatening injuries. Both victims have been released from the hospital, according to Deas.
No other injures were reported.
The shooting did not take place inside the Popeyes, but happened behind the fast food restaurant, Deas said. Officers returned to the crime scene Wednesday when there was daylight to continue the investigation, according to Deas.
Further details about the shooting were limited because of the ongoing investigation, but Deas said there’s no indication the shooting was anything more than an isolated incident.
There was no word on a shooter, or shooters, or anyone else involved. Information about a motive for the shooting or the number of guns involved and shots fired was not available.
No arrests have been reported by police.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police at 803-794-0721, CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
