Sheriff’s deputy fired after being charged in hit-and-run crash, SC officials say
A longtime member of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department was fired after he was arrested for his role in a Tuesday night crash.
The former deputy, 52-year-old Terry Govan, was charged with driving under the influence and hit-and-run, the sheriff’s department said in a Wednesday news release.
South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers arrested Govan at his home, saying he went there following a crash near his subdivision’s entrance, according to the release.
Information about the collision, the exact location where it occurred and the number of vehicles involved, was not available.
No one was hurt in the crash, the sheriff’s department said.
Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon “terminated” Govan Tuesday night, according to the release. Govan was hired as a deputy in 2001, the sheriff’s department said.
Govan was taken to the Lexington County Detention Center Tuesday night, and released Wednesday after appearing before a magistrate judge, according to the release. Information about Govan’s bond was not available.
