Arrest made after man found dead in front of his SC home on Christmas Eve, cops say
An arrest was made days after a South Carolina man was found dead in front of his home on Christmas Eve, the Aiken County Sheriffs Office said Thursday.
Tony Muldrow, a 34-year-old Effingham resident, was arrested Thursday morning in Florence County, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. Mudrow was wanted for the shooting death of 29-year-old Rondre J. Gomillion, according to the release.
At about 11 a.m. on Dec. 24, deputies responded to a call about a shooting at 161 Squire Street, the sheriff’s office said. At the scene, deputies found an unresponsive man who had been shot in the chest lying in the front yard of his home, according to the release. The man was identified as Gomillion, by the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.
Despite life-saving efforts made by the deputies, Gomillion died at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.
A witness told deputies that the gunman and Gomillion had gotten into an argument outside the home before shots were fired, according to the release.
Information about why the men were arguing, or a motive for the shooting, was not available.
After the shooting, the sheriff’s office said Muldrow has ties to Florence. That’s where he was taken into custody by members of the Florence County Sheriff’s Office at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday, according to the release.
Muldrow is being held in the Florence County Detention Center and will be extradited to Aiken County where he’ll be charged with manslaughter and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, the sheriff’s office said.
Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said his office and the sheriff’s office are continuing to investigate the death. An autopsy will be performed in Newberry, according to Ables.
Despite the arrest, anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 803-648-6811, CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
