SC man arrested on rape & assault charges, and police think there might be more victims
A South Carolina man was arrested following an “extremely violent assault” and rape, according to the Irmo Police Department, which said it believes he might have attacked more victims.
On Wednesday, 35-year-old Irmo resident Daquan M. Williams was charged with kidnapping, first-degree criminal sexual conduct (forcible rape), and first-degree assault and battery, in addition to possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, police said in a news release.
Officers became involved around 7 a.m. Wednesday when they responded to a call about a rape, according to the release.
The victim told the officers about being hit in the face by a man who then held a knife to their throat, sexually assaulted them, and threatened to kill them, police said. There was no word about where the attack occurred.
The victim was taken to a local hospital, according to the release. Further information about the victim’s condition was not available.
Based upon the victim’s statements and physical evidence gathered at the scene, officers identified Williams as the attacker, police said. After getting arrest warrants, officers took Williams into custody shortly before 5 p.m., according to the release.
Williams was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, police said. No bond has been set and Williams remains behind bars, jail records show.
“I am extremely proud of our patrol, community services, and investigations divisions. Their hard work and cooperation resulted in the swift apprehension of an extremely dangerous person today,” Irmo Police Chief Bobby Dale said in the release. “The Town of Irmo as well as surrounding areas are safer tonight because this individual will not be walking around our streets.”
Police said they believe Williams might be connected to similar cases in the area and have reached out to surrounding law enforcement agencies as part of an on-going investigation.
Anyone with information about Williams is asked to call police at 803-781-8088, CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
