Man arrested after Richland deputies fired at in Eastover

Richland County deputies were fired at Friday night while attempting to stop a car for driving with no lights in the town of Eastover.

Deputies followed the vehicle from Dodamead Street as it turned improperly onto Henry Street, according to the sheriff’s department’s Curtis Wilson. The vehicle then stopped, and the driver hung out of the window and fired multiple shots from a handgun in the direction of deputies before fleeing north, Wilson said.

Deputies pursued and stopped the car farther down Henry Street. The driver would not exit the vehicle when deputies called out to him, so deputies charged the vehicle, Wilson said. They arrested Forrest Antonio Taylor, the vehicle’s sole occupant, and confiscated a handgun.

Taylor was charged with two counts of attempted murder, failure to stop for blue lights and siren and traffic violations. He is being held at the county’s Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
