A man has been charged with attempted murder after an officer-involved shooting in Orangeburg County, according to a South Carolina Law Enforcement Division news release.

Officers with the S.C. State University Police Department encountered a man trying to drive onto the campus on Friday afternoon, the release stated. The man drove past the officers onto the campus, and they pursued him.

An officer shot at the man’s car during a conflict near the football stadium, and the man was taken to the hospital for a graze wound. It’s unclear if the wound was caused by a bullet or something else, SLED said.

Tyrik Willie Joe Pressley III, 27, was later charged by the campus police with attempted murder and failure to stop for a blue light, no injury or death, first offense, according to SLED. The state agency referred questions about Pressley’s attempted murder charge to S.C. State police, who didn’t respond to an inquiry.

No officers were harmed.
