Man stabbed to death found on Sumter County street. SC police are questioning a woman

An early morning stabbing in the Midlands left a South Carolina man dead, the Sumter Police Department said.

Officers were responding to a domestic-related stabbing just before 3 a.m. Friday when they found a man dead in the road on Broad Street and Broad Court near a residential area in Sumter.

A 34-year-old woman who police said was involved in the stabbing approached officers as they arrived at the scene. She was treated for minor injuries and is being interviewed by detectives.

The man was identified as 52-year-old Joseph Marion Croft of Camden Highway. His next of kin was notified by the Sumter County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

Police are continuing to investigate the stabbing.
