One man killed and another injured in Lexington County shooting, SC officials say
One man was killed and another was injured Tuesday in a shooting that has left a third man in jail, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
Robert Todd Bailey, a 60-year-old Swansea resident, died in the shooting that Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher called a homicide.
Another Swansea resident, 29-year-old Joey Len Inabinet Jr., was charged with murder, attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, according to the sheriff’s department.
The shooting happened outside of Bailey’s home in the 1000 block of Calvary Church Road, Fisher said. That’s in the Swansea area of Lexington County, between Interstate 26 and U.S. 321.
“A deputy responded to a call about a shooting at a home on Calvary Church Road before daybreak Tuesday morning,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said in a news release. “He found a man who had been shot but was conscious and breathing, then a witness told him someone else was shot down the road. The deputy performed CPR on the second shooting victim until EMS arrived.”
The second victim, later identified as Bailey, had been shot in the upper body and died at the scene, according to Fisher.
The other man who was shot was taken to an area hospital with what Fisher called “critical injuries.” Further information on that man’s condition was not available.
The sheriff’s department said the shooting happened days after one of the victims was involved in a fight with Inabinet. There was no word about why the men had fought.
Inabinet was arrested later Tuesday morning, according to the sheriff’s department. Information about where he was taken into custody was not available.
“We found shell casings at the scene consistent with a gun we know has been in Inabinet’s possession,” Koon said. “Our investigation into this case is ongoing; however, we are very glad to have Inabinet in custody.”
Fisher said the coroner’s office is also continuing to investigate the shooting.
Inabinet was taken to the Lexington County Detention Center, the sheriff’s department said. No bond has been set and he remains behind bars, jail records show.
