South Carolina man dies in hospital following shooting, coroner says
A South Carolina man was killed Sunday in a shooting, according to the Sumter County Coroner’s Office.
Jaquen Marquell Jefferson, a 32-year-old Sumter County resident, died from injuries he suffered from an “apparent gunshot wound,” Coroner Robbie Baker said Monday in a news release.
The shooting happened at about 6 a.m. Sunday on Dinkins Mill Road in the Rembert area, according to the release.
Jefferson was taken to Prisma Health Tuomey hospital, where he died, Baker said. An autopsy will be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, according to the release.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word about a shooter or shooters, or anyone else involved in the gunfire.
No arrests have been reported, and the shooting continues to be investigated by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and the coroner’s office.
