One man was shot in the head and another is in jail after both fired guns, SC cops say
One man was killed and another was locked up following a recent shootout, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
Aubrey Priester Jr., a 42-year-old Barnwell resident, was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime connected to the death of 33-year-old Juston Erving, SLED said in a news release.
Both Priester and Erving fired guns during the Sunday morning shootout, an affidavit shows.
At about 3:30 a.m., the men were involved in an altercation on Sato Avenue in Denmark, according to the affidavit. Information about what led to the altercation was not available, and there was no word if the men knew each other prior to the shooting.
Erving then pulled a gun and began shooting at a trailer, the affidavit shows. A witness said that Priester then drew a gun and shot Erving, causing him to fall down, according to the affidavit.
While Erving was incapacitated on the ground, Priester approached and repeatedly shot the victim in the upper body and head, the affidavit shows.
No other injuries were reported.
Priester was arrested Sunday and booked into the Bamberg County Detention Center, SLED said. No bond has been set and Priester remains behind bars, Bamberg County court records show.
He will be prosecuted by the 2nd Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
