Richland County coroner identifies man shot, killed Tuesday morning

The Richland County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim who was killed Tuesday morning after a shooting broke out in Columbia.

Coroner Gary Watts said 32-year-old Timothy Peter Gentry, of Columbia, was pronounced dead at 2:15 a.m. after being transported to a local hospital shortly after the incident. Gentry died from a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said the shooting broke out just after 1 a.m. in the 1200 block of Beaufort Street near River Drive.

No further information regarding the circumstances of the shooting has been released by the Columbia Police Department.
