A body was found behind a Food Lion in SC, but coroner calls man’s death an accident
A body was found behind a Food Lion grocery store in South Carolina and was originally investigated as a suspicious death, according to the Columbia Police Department.
But the Richland County Coroner’s Office eventually determined that the 72-year-old man’s death was accidental, police said Friday.
On Aug. 2, officers responded to the Food Lion at 5118 Fairfield Road in Eau Claire — in the northeast part of the city — at about 4 p.m., after a person was found dead.
Lawn care workers found the man in a wooded area behind the grocery store, police said.
He has been identified as Robert Thomas, according to police.
The coroner’s office has not released Thomas’ cause of death.
