Craigslist sale ends after man was shot by suspect
Richland County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a shooting, which wounded one, that stemmed from a Craigslist sale late Monday afternoon.
Sgt. Kevin Lawrence, a department spokesman, said the victim was attempting to sell his dirt bike on Craigslist, an online marketplace, when he was contacted by the suspect who said he was interested in purchasing it. The pair agreed to meet at a park on Rabon Road in northeast Columbia to complete the sale.
Lawrence said at 5 p.m., the victim drove the dirt bike to the park and met with the suspect who brandished a handgun and attempted to rob the victim. The suspect then shot the victim in the lower body. The victim got on the dirt bike and drove himself to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for his injury.
Sheriff Leon Lott said he encourages anyone attempting to buy or sell an item through Craigslist to complete the sale in front of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department headquarters located at 5623 Two Notch Road just off Fontaine Road.
Anyone who has information regarding the incident is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1 (888)-CRIME-SC.
