Estranged couple’s argument leaves one dead and the other in jail, SC police say
A man was killed Sunday and a woman is in jail after the estranged couple were involved in an argument that led to a shooting, according to the Sumter Police Department.
Jasmine Symone Woods, 23, was charged with murder following the domestic-violence related shooting death, police said in a news release.
At about 6:30 a.m., officers responded to a shooting at a Putter Drive home, and found Woods inside along with a man who had been shot that was lying on a floor, according to the release.
The man, later identified as 34-year-old Antoin Pugh, was taken to Prisma Health Tuomey where he later died, police said.
No other injuries were reported.
Officers believe that Woods and Pugh were in a relationship at one time, and the estranged couple were arguing Sunday before shots were fired, according to the release.
Woods, who lives at another address on Putter Drive, was placed in custody and booked at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, police said. Information on her bond status was not available.
Despite the arrest, police said they and the Sumter County Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate the shooting. Coroner Robbie Baker said an autopsy will be performed Tuesday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
There was another deadly shooting in Sumter Sunday morning, when two people were killed at a hotel in an unrelated incident, according to police.
No arrests have been reported, and that shooting continues to be investigated by police.
