Body found in SC home after fire, Lexington sheriff says. Investigation underway

A body was found inside a home that caught on fire Monday afternoon, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

Craig Raymond Kustermann, a 54-year-old Leesville resident died at the scene, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said.

In addition to the coroner’s office, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and the Lexington County Fire Service are investigating the fire at a home in the 1200 block of Charles Town Road Monday afternoon.

First responders found Kustermann’s body inside the home after the fire was extinguished.

Investigators with the sheriff’s department said they’re not currently looking for any suspects potentially connected with the fire, according to a social media post on X.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
