Man found stabbed to death after fight with family member on SC road, coroner says

A South Carolina man was stabbed to death near Edgefield Highway Friday evening, according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.

Jeffery M. Stodghill, a 36-year-old Trenton man, was the victim, Coroner Darryl Ables said Sunday.

Just after 6 p.m. Friday, the coroner’s office said it was called to the 2700 block of Edgefield Highway, near Johnston Highway, after Stodghill’s body was found on the road.

There was a domestic altercation between Stodghill and a family member at the home when he was stabbed, according to the coroner’s office. Information about what led to the altercation was not available.

Stodghill died at the scene and will be autopsied in Newberry next week, the coroner’s office said.

No other injuries were reported.

The coroner’s office and the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the death.
