Former SC school administrator charged with criminal solicitation of a minor, SLED says
A former dean at Camden Military Academy is facing charges against a minor after persuading a student to send him a nude photo, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
John Heflin, 53, was charged Thursday with criminal solicitation of a minor on accusations he urged a student to send a photo of his private parts to Heflin via social media, according to SLED.
Camaden Military Academy, founded in 1958, is a military-style boarding school in Camden, S.C. The school serves male students between grades 7 to 12, according to information on its website.
Heflin is accused of inducing, enticing and persuading a school cadet to send a photo of his genitals on Sept. 14, an arrest warrant said.
Prior to Heflin’s photo request, authorities say he engaged in “sexually explicit conversations” with the cadet, who told investigators the conversations began in 2022.
Heflin told the student he “wanted to get him alone on the dirt roads ... to be one on one,” an arrest warrant said. Heflin further told the minor “what he would love to do” if the cadet came to Heflin’s house.
On Sept. 16, Heflin called the student to his office at the academy and apologized for his explicit advancements, according to the warrant.
Heflin was booked into the Kershaw County Detention Center.
