Two teenagers charged after house was sprayed with gunfire, South Carolina cops say

Two teenagers were recently charged for shooting at a South Carolina home over the summer, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

On Oct. 15, both 19-year-old Dreyfus Dre’son Wells and a 17-year-old were each charged with discharging firearms into a dwelling, the sheriff’s office said Monday in a news release. The 17-year-old was not publicly identified because they are a minor, according to the release.

The shooting happened July 6 at a home on Hilldale Drive, the sheriff’s office said. That’s about 1.5 miles from Sumter High School.

At about 1:30 a.m., deputies responded to a report of a shooting and found numerous bullet holes in the home that had been hit with gunfire, according to the release.

The sheriff’s office said a resident had been sleeping inside at the time of the shooting, but no injuries were reported.

There was no word on a motive for the shooting.

Information about how the teens were connected to the gunfire three months after the shooting was not available.

The 17-year-old was petitioned to family court, the sheriff’s office said. After being arrested, Wells was booked into the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center on the weapons charge and was released after posting a $12,500 bond, according to the release.
