A man is dead following a late-night shooting at a Columbia event venue, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department announced.

Around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, deputies were called to 9221 Two Notch Road to an event venue called Suite Sixty because of a shooting, officials said. They met with venue security, who said there was a person inside with gunshot wounds.

A deputy found the shooting victim and began lifesaving measures. However, the man died from his injuries at the scene. EMS and the Richland County coroner were called.

Witnesses told the sheriff’s department that a “large fight” had broken out inside the venue and a man was shot several times by a person outside the building. The suspected shooter left the scene before deputies arrived.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the department or leave an anonymous tip through CrimeStoppers by visiting crimesc.com.
