A man was shot after breaking into a home to try to harm someone, witnesses told the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies originally received a report of a man who had shot himself in the 1000 block of Highway 1 North in Cassatt on Thursday around 4:30 p.m. When they arrived, the sheriff’s office said, they were told by everyone involved that someone at the residence had shot him after he had forced entry in an attempt to harm someone inside.

Everyone present there knew each other, officials said, including the man who was shot. No strangers were involved.

EMS took the man to an area hospital. Officials said he was in stable condition.

No arrests have been made.

The sheriff’s office said the public is not in danger. Officials said they believe all suspects, victims and witnesses have been identified and located.

An investigation is pending.
