Ex-DJJ associate deputy charged with assault and battery on handcuffed juvenile, SLED says
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division charged a former S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice associate deputy with third degree battery, assault and misconduct in office after an incident where he hit a handcuffed juvenile, SLED said in an email press release.
Adrian Oneal Cartledge, 45, intentionally struck a juvenile in the face with his right elbow when the juvenile was handcuffed with his hands behind his back, according to a warrant released by SLED.
The warrant said that Cartledge responded to a call about a juvenile outside his cell. After the juvenile was brought to his feet, Cartledge struck him with his elbow even though he had complied with instructions by staff.
The warrant said the juvenile sustained minor injuries.
The warrant said Cartledge was dishonest about the incident when documenting it, and the incident was captured on the facility camera.
Cartledge was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County, a press release by SLED said.
