One person was injured after shots were fired from a moving vehicle into another car, the Sumter Police Department announced.

The shooting happened around 2:45 p.m. on Friday near the intersection of Liberty and Purdy streets. Both cars were traveling west on Liberty Street, and one of the drivers was struck.

The 28-year-old injured driver is being treated at a local hospital and is expected to recover. No other information about the incident was available.

Police are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Sumter Police Department at 803-436-2700.
