Woman charged with murder after deputies find man who had been stabbed, SC cops say

A man was killed Wednesday and a woman was arrested on a murder charge following a domestic dispute, according to the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office.

In addition to murder, 54-year-old Ridgeway resident Tammi Neal was also charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The Fairfield County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 44-year-old Ridgeway resident George Thomas Yorn Jr., according to the release.

At about noon, deputies responded to a report of a stabbing at a Salutation Lane home, the sheriff’s office said. That’s in the Ridgeway area of Fairfield County, not far from Exit 34 on Interstate 77.

Deputies discovered a man, later identified as Yorn, who had been stabbed in the chest, according to the release.

One of the deputies provided aid, but Yorn died at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

No other injuries were reported.

Both Yorn and Neal lived at the home, according to the release.

Neal was taken to the Fairfield County Detention Center, the sheriff’s office said. No bond has been set and she remains behind bars, Fairfield County court records show.

Neal is scheduled to return to court on Jan. 22, 2025, according to judicial records.

Information about a motive for the stabbing was not available, but the incident continues to be investigated by the sheriff’s office.
