South Carolina woman who threatened and tried to attack school official arrested, cops say
A South Carolina woman was arrested Monday following a recent incident where she threatened and tried to attack a school administrator, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
Evelyn Jefferson, a 30-year-old Rembert resident, was charged with third-degree assault and battery as well as disturbing schools, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
The incident occurred at a Sumter County School Dec. 4, according to the release.
Jefferson continuously issued threats toward the administrator, including “serious threats of bodily harm,” the sheriff’s office said.
The administrator hid in an office and locked the door for safety, as Jefferson made a large disturbance, according to the release.
There was no word about why Jefferson was threatening the administrator, or specific information about the threats.
No injuries were reported.
Arrest warrants were issued Dec. 6, and Jefferson surrendered to law enforcement officers at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Monday, according to the release.
Jefferson was booked into the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center and her bond was set at $2,500, according to the release. She has been released, the sheriff’s office said.
Jefferson is scheduled to return to court on Jan. 8, 2025, Sumter County judicial records show.
