Lexington County man ordered to spend a quarter century in prison, SC prosecutor says
A South Carolina man will spend decades in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges stemming from a series of burglaries that came to an end following a long high-speed chase, the 11th Circuit Solicitor’s office said.
On Dec. 4, Christopher Azra Dalne Adkins was sentenced to 25 years in prison, the solicitor’s office said Wednesday in a news release.
The 28-year-old Irmo resident pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary (violent), third-degree burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle (value $10,000 or more) and failure to stop for blue lights (second offense), according to the release.
The charges were connected to a Sept. 17, 2023, incident, the solicitor’s office said.
That was when a Cayce police officer tried to pull over a stolen vehicle driven by Adkins, according to the release. Adkins ignored the attempted traffic stop and led law enforcement officers on a 34-mile chase, with speeds reaching 100 mph, the solicitor’s office said.
The pursuit ended when the stolen vehicle was disabled by a “stop stick,” and Adkins was taken into custody, according to the release.
The investigation uncovered that Adkins was connected to a series of storage unit burglaries, the solicitor’s office said. Adkins burglarized a storage unit that contained over 50 guns, ranging from antique collectibles to suppressed assault rifles, according to the release.
Adkins was on probation for multiple prior convictions when he was arrested following the chase, the solicitor’s office said. That included previous convictions for distribution of methamphetamine, possession of a stolen vehicle and failure to stop for blue lights, the solicitor’s office said.
Now Adkins will spend the next quarter century locked up in a South Carolina Department of Corrections facility.
He received the maximum sentence of 15 years for the second-degree burglary charge and 10 years for the possession of a stolen vehicle crime, and the sentences were ordered to run consecutively, the solicitor’s office said.
The remainder of his sentences will run concurrent to the second-degree burglary sentence, according to the release.
In addition to Cayce police, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department was involved in the investigation.
Assistant Solicitor Russell Parker led the prosecution of the case, according to the release. Lexington attorney Andrew Farley was listed as Adkins’ lawyer, court records show.
